A Bakersfield man is being held responsible for the murders of his mother and stepfather early Saturday morning. According to police reports, 29-year-old Derek Connell shot and killed his mother and stepfather, Christopher and Kim Higginbotham both aged 48, then preceded to FaceTime their bodies to a relative claiming he discovered them as he entered their home. Calls had been made to police concerning the well being of the couple. Police arrived to see Connell in a vehicle backing out of the homes garage. Connell was detained which allowed officers to discover the lifeless bodies of his mother and stepfather in pools of their own blood inside the home. Police also found a small cache of weapons presumably owned by Christopher. A small effort was made to clean up the mess. Connell has since been charged with two counts of murder and is being held without bail he also faces the death penalty.
