On Tuesday April 26, a health inspector ate lunch in the Valley Plaza food court when he received unsettling news from a member of the staff. The malls management advised staff and tenants to avoid the use of water and sinks due to an issue with the plumbing. An immediate investigation was launched by the Kern County Environmental Health Services Division which made the decision to shut the food court down. There are about nine food vendors in the food court with their own permits which have been revoked, management became aware of the situation but unfortunately did not act or pass along the information as well as they could have. Reports say one of the nine vendors, Ruby Thai Kitchen had been shut down earlier this month due to a rodent infestation. This was brought to the attention of health inspectors who then inspected all nine establishments. The rodent infestation was determined to be contained in that specific area.
